History: 1985-1999

At its start in 1985, the race was billed as the Run to the Towers, organized and directed by a few local runners with the help of title sponsor Finish Line Sports, a sporting goods store originally located at Baca St. and Cerrillos Rd. Run to the Towers would be the first organized trail and mountain race in Santa Fe.

In its eighth year (1992) the race was assumed by the Santa Fe Striders, and renamed as the Big Tesuque Trail Run. For the next six years the race was directed by Jim Fisher, who then handed off duties to Peter Fant in 1998. Results and summaries of the race through the first several years are as follows below:

Tom Kirchgessner said...

Hi My name is Tom Kirchgessner I did the race 4 times when I was younger and even did a 1:23:45 for my best time. I am 56 now and today October 11th did the course for a workout in 2 hours. It was really fun and it had snowed an inch above 11,500 feet. Anyway I had really wanted to do the run last week but my back was stiff and not quite right after a minor injury. Anyway I hope to do it next year. Can you please have the road grated so the times will be faster like in the earlier years. I am guessing it is at least 3 minutes slower because of all the rocks. It is a little dangerous running fast downhill and I sprained my ankle last year. If anyone wants to run the sandia crossing call me at 967-5968. It will be the October 25th weekend. at Canyon Estates on the crest trail in Albuquerque. 29 miles long.
